Custom Digital Organs
The Organ Workshop produces custom instruments is
all sizes. The modular digital system employed for tone generation
in our organs means that we never need to compromise in a small
specification so the sound quality of individual stops is of the
same high standard throughout the range.
All our custom instruments have external amplification and loudspeakers.
A multi-channel system provides separation between the different
departments of the organ and wherever possible these are arranged
to give a true three-dimensional representation of an organ pipe
chamber. In general we try to avoid ‘spreading loudspeakers
around the room’, as we have found that, as with a pipe organ,
a physical focal point for the sound gives much more satisfying
results to both player and listener.
Any stop, coupler or accessory can be provided, but as a starting
point here is a small selection of specifications that we have built
recently:

A comprehensive multi-memory stop action is provided as standard
on our organ consoles. Any number of pistons, couplers & reversers
can be accommodated, as well as more unusual features such as a
piston sequencer with a digital counter or a programmable crescendo
pedal.
Our custom instruments are voiced on-site after installation using
a laptop PC temporarily connected to the organ. It is possible to
make literally hundreds of adjustments to every stop - a very close
analogy to the mechanical voicing procedure carried out by a pipe
voicer. We take a very close interest in the sound of every new
organ, and invariably return a number of times during the early
weeks to ensure a perfect musical performance and acoustic balance.
