Hybrid Pipe / Digital Instruments

A particular specialty of The Organ Workshop is the production of organs incorporating both pipes and digital generators. We have been involved both in rebuilds and enlargements of existing pipe organs and also completely new instruments where we have provided all the electronic pipe control along with a brand new console.

We have devised an automatic tuning system that ensures that the digital voices closely track changes in pitch of the pipes. It is not generally realized the extent that the pitch of a pipe organ changes with temperature, but in general our automatic digital tuning makes regular adjustments entirely unnecessary.

In all other respects our hybrid instruments can be specified in the same way as our custom digital organs, and any stop list or console accessory is possible.

Digital communication between console and pipes is by way of a single thin screened cable, and it is possible to provide more than one connection point within a church to enable the console to be moved.

Organ tuners appreciate the feature that a standard MIDI keyboard can be connected at the pipes to obviate the need for an assistant at the console.
